Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced this week that the restrictions that have locked down U.S./Canada border since March 2020 will start to relax over the coming weeks.
In the first step, as of Monday July 5th, those who hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and are fully vaccinated* against COVID-19 can enter Canada without needing to quarantine for 2 weeks. Previously, those who travelled by air were required to stay in a government-authorized hotel for at least 3 days – this rule also now longer applies.
However, all non-essential travel between the two countries is still banned until at least July 21. Under 12’s (who are not yet eligible for vaccination) are still required to quarantine for 14 days at a residential address.
A statement released by Canada Border Services agency says:
Fully vaccinated travellers eligible to enter Canada arriving by air or land, will continue to be required to complete the mandatory pre- and on-arrival testing but they will no longer be required to quarantine or complete a day-8 test.

*Fully vaccinated means that you received your last dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before entering Canada. These include the vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD or Janssen (J&J).
