Holiday Gatherings on the 16th

On Thursday evening, December 16th, we attended three events on our way home after working all day for [nap_names id=”FIRM-NAME-1″].

The first was a fundraiser, held at the Burntwood Tavern on Detroit Road in Rocky River, for Ms. Denise Joan Salerno who will be running for Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge, general division, in 2022.

We spoke with Ms. Salerno, who has been a Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney since 2008 and learned that she has been a party to cases involving people who immigrated to the United States from regions including the Hispanic and Asian countries as well as Africa.

Just like other judicial candidates that we have talked to, Ms. Salerno is very aware of the importance of complete transparency with immigrants/refugees and their legal representatives because a conviction and/or guilty plea might seriously affect their status.

(for more about Ms. Salerno see https://www.salernoforjudge.com/about-1/)

After a short while, we left to go to the Lakewood Democratic Club Holiday Party held at the BottleHouse Brewery on Madison Avenue in Lakewood.

Upon arriving, we posed for photos with Mr. Erik Meinhart, the club president as well as Development and Communications Associate with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, and other club members that we have known for years.

It was refreshing to be around so many people who share our views on the need for constructive, comprehensive immigration reform.

After munching down a veggie burger (i.e. in which beets were the main ingredient) we left to go to our last event which took place at the IVY Nightclub on West 6th Street in Cleveland and was the Holiday Party and Celebrity Fashion Show put on by Zack Reed and Friends on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

Of course, we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Reed who has been diligently putting on this affair for twenty-five years now.

Accordingly, we checked the website and learned that the basic goal of the program is, “through the gift of a new toy, help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children.”

We got to visit with Staff Sgt. Tyler Joss and Sgt. Claudia Guzman who so much appreciated our donation that they posed for a photo holding the check.
