New York City immigration law firm fights to protect your rights and immigration status
Being threatened with a removal proceeding or deportation is frightening, and disrupts your life and the lives of your loved ones. Too often, immigrants feel they have no one on their side who will fight to protect their immigration status and way of life in the United States. With offices in New York City and in key cities across the nation, Margaret W. Wong & Associates, LLC is devoted to defending you if you are taken into custody and placed into removal proceedings.
What is a removal proceeding?
The job of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is to “…identify, arrest, and remove aliens who present a danger to national security or are a risk to public safety, as well as those who enter the United States illegally or otherwise undermine the integrity of our immigration laws and our border control efforts.”
In the current environment, if an immigrant is arrested or investigated, they are often placed into a removal proceeding to decide whether they should be deported to their home country. You may receive a Notice to Appear, or you may be picked up on the street, at your home, or place of business.
An immigration judge presides over removal proceedings and hears argument from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and from your own attorney. Following the presentation of evidence, the immigration judge will deliver an order of termination, a relief from removal (that protects you from removal), or a removal (that orders you to be deported).
The laws and regulations surrounding removals can be confusing and complex. If you become aware that you are being sought by ICE or receive a Notice of Hearing, it is very important that you contact an immigration attorney who has successful experience with removal hearings and deportation matters. Our firm handles all aspects of removal and deportation. We can appeal your case to exercise every opportunity available to safeguard your status and ability to live in the United States.
We can help with federal appeals on immigration matters
If the immigration judge and the Board of Immigration Appeals do not find in your favor, you still have an option to appeal at the federal level. Our immigration attorneys have had significant success protecting the rights of immigrants facing serious matters including:
Our attorneys have helped many of our clients avoid deportation. In one case, our client was pursuing citizenship but had a criminal conviction and was placed in a removal proceeding. Arguing that our client had not known the impact of his guilty plea on his immigration status, we were able to clear our client of the criminal charges and end the removal proceedings. Despite ongoing challenges with USCIS, our client was eventually granted naturalization.
