Opening of Clinton's Cleveland Campaign Office

On Tuesday night, August 23rd, we went to  the opening of the downtown Cleveland office for former Secretary of IMG_3916State Hillary Clinton's campaign for the U.S. Presidency. It was located at the Wooltex Gallery on East Superior Avenue.

Approximately 100 people showed up including Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Ohio State Reps Stephanie Howseand Martin Sweeney, Cuyahoga County Councilperson Yvonne Conwell, Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley, and Cleveland City Councilpersons IMG_3920Phyllis Cleveland, Kerry McCormack, Brian Cummins, T.J. Dow, and Jeff Johnson.

There was a brief program wherein Mr. Chinemerem Onyeukwu, an organize for the Clinton campaign, acted as emcee and we heard short speeches from Councilperson McCormack, Ohio State Rep. Howse, and Mayor Jackson concerning of the importance of good volunteers in a successful political campaign and the need for everyone thereto take part in Ms. Clinton's effort. We also heard from Ms. Kim Cooper about the role digital devices will play and Ms. Jocelyn Prince about the importance of this elections which, as of this time, is less than 80 days from now.

While we were there we talked to old friends like Mr. Rick Nagin, Ms. Lana Moresky,  Ms. Cynthia Demsey, and Mr. IMG_3931Craig Hoffman. Last week we had met Mr. Christopher B. Nance from the Commission on Economic Inclusion at the Inclusive conference at LaCentre in Westlake and he was there at this event too.

On the wall there was an accomplished mural of Sec. Clinton's face imposed on the state of Ohio. We congratulated the artist, Ms. Catherine Spencer on doing a fine job. When we first arrived we met a person whose parents immigrated to the United States from Nigeria in 1977 and 1979 with the assistance of Ms. Margaret IMG_3917W. Wong.

Speaking of immigration, we like Sec. Clinton's plans for immigration reform. Among the things that she favors are ending the three and ten-year bars, President Obama's executive actions pertaining to DACA and DAPA, end family detention and close private immigration detention centers. and expanding access to affordable health care to all families regardless of immigration status.

Here is a link to her web page on immigration reform which is more detailed we are saying here: https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/immigration-reform/

On the web page there is a 05/05/2015 quote from Sec. Clinton that reads, "If we claim we are for family, then we have to pull together and resolve the outstanding issues around our broken immigration system. The American people support comprehensive immigration reform not just because it is the right thing to do-and it is-but because they know that it strengthens families, strengthens our economy, and strengthens our country...We can't wait any longer for a path to full and equal citizenship."
