Abused for her Beliefs in China Ms. L was born and raised in China. She was a practitioner of the Falun Gong spiritual religion, which Chinese authorities consider subversive. She was detained and abused because of her beliefs; after her eventual release, police officers continued to threaten her. To be able to live freely, she came to the United States in 2006.
