Ready to Rock: Cleveland in the 2015 Rock Hall Induction Spotlight
On Wednesday morning, April 1st, we went to the Greater Cleveland Partnership to attend a program titled "Ready to Rock: Cleveland in the 2015 Rock Hall Induction Spotlight" in which we listened to Mr. Greg Harris, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Mr. Alec Wightman; Partner at BakerHostetler and Chairman of Rock and Roll, Inc.; talk about the induction ceremony which will take place on April 18th at Cleveland Public Auditorium and all of the events that will be taking place the prior week. Both Mr. Harris and Mr. Wightman expressed much joy and anticipation about what will be happening starting on Saturday, April 11th with live bands all day at the museum (which will offer free admission) and fireworks at night and a gospel celebration on Sunday, April 12th. The rest of the week will feature events at such venues as the Music Box, the Beachland Ballroom, and the Nine.
This will be the 30th Annual Rock Hall Induction and it happens in Cleveland every third year alternating between Los Angeles, New York and here. This year the people/bands inducted will be the Five Royales, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Mr. Ringo Starr, Mr. Bill Withers, Mr. Lou Reed, Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, Ms. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Green Day.
Mr. Harris reviewed some statistics that showed how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which received its 10th million visitor just two weeks ago, has helped Cleveland. It was built for $100 million dollars via a public/private partnership and generated an estimated $2 billion dollars for the Northeast Ohio Economy because 90% of its visitors come here from out of the area so that means they need transportation and places to eat and to stay while they are here. Just induction week alone will generate $15-$16 million in no small part due to the many technicians who will be working all week to make the Cleveland Public Auditorium ready for the ceremony.
After the presentation we talked to Mr. Harris and Mr. Wightman who both said to say hello to Ms. Margaret W. Wong. Mr. Wightman very much admires Margaret W. Wong and Associates and has referred immigration cases to us over the years. Also knowing Ms. Wong was Mr. Michael Canty, President and CEO of Alloy Bellows & Precision Welding, who served on the Town Hall Board with her. We gave our contact information to a person with Plante Moran, an accounting firm that often deals with clients who have interns from China and India. We really enjoyed talking with Mr. Keven P. Prather, Managing Partner with Skylight Financial Group because he spends a lot of time driving around Cuyahoga County on his job just as we do.
Regarding the induction ceremony itself, we learned that Mr. Ringo Starr will be inducted by Mr. Paul McCartney and there is speculation that the two of them might perform there together. If this is so, it will be only the second time that this has happened since the Beatles dissolved their partnership. We, ourselves, will thus be looking forward to the induction with great anticipation.
