We have contributed to Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) because they offer excellent support to LGBT people and their loved ones. We hadn't been to one of their functions for a while, though, so on May 12th we stopped by their monthly meeting where we were warmly greeted by Ms. Jane Daroff and Ms. Sharon Groh-Wargo who we have known for a long time.
We were given information about PFLAG's 30th Anniversary Celebration which will take place on Saturday, July 25th. We certainly hope that we are able to attend this event where Ms. Daroff and Dr. Jes Sellers, Ph.D. of CWRU will be honored for their 30 years of service to PFLAG. We would like to attend their annual Community Before Parade gathering at the Old Stone Church on Cleveland Pride day in June but we will probably be tabling at the festival on that day so we couldn't make it.
We stayed for the entire meeting and said hello to a lot of people that we hadn't seen for a while.
We also got to talk to someone from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) who told us that the reason Bow Tie Bowling was cancelled last Saturday was because there were several bowling events for groups that they were allied with going on around that time so Bow Tie Bowling just couldn't get the necessary number of people to commit to attending. We strongly advised to hang on to our new bow tie, however, since a HRC bowling event will take place in Cleveland at the end of October. Due to the fact that it will take place around Halloween, we were told that we could wear anything that we want!
