Beijing: Contemporary and Imperial at the Cleveland Museum of Art

On Sunday, March 30th, we went to the Cleveland Museum of Art for an opening day lecture by noted photographer Lois Conner pertaining to exhibit on display until June 29th titled "Beijing: Contemporary and Imperial: Photographs by Lois Conner", consisting of 33 breathtaking, panoramic photographs that show the evolution of modern Beijing and its Cultural Landscape. What we found most interesting were the photographs of buildings/structures either being created or being torn down because these shots inspired us to use our imaginations to consider how the buildings/structures will look like or once looked like; indeed, Ms. Conner stated that the completed work doesn't interest her as much as the work in progress. We also got to meet her collaborator, Geremie R. Barme who is a distinguished historian of China. After her presentation, Ms. Conner was honored by our friend Dr. Anthony Yen of the Confucius Society because Ms. Conner's photographs help to preserve the history and the culture of China.
