Business After Hours at Buckeye Community Bank
On Tuesday, April 12th, our event was a Lorain County Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" held at Buckeye Community Bank at Sheffield Center in Lorain. Around 105 people RSVP'd for this event and at least three of those we talked to either referred friends and/or clients to Margaret W. Wong and Associates or knew people who made use of our services. We made about 20 new contacts including Ms. Rachel Dotson from Genesis House which offers assistance to victims of domestic violence. She said that they have a very diverse staff, provide bilingual services and really make an effort to reach out to all people in the community. We enjoyed talking to Mr. Rick Phelps from ActionCoach (business coaching) who actually lives in Ohio City but has professional ties in Lorain just as we do. We talked for a few minutes about going-ons in Ohio City and how everyone is getting ready for the RNC for just a few months. We learned from Mr. Martin Leibas from Goodwill Industries about a Hispanic conference that will be taking place at Lorain Community College in the next few weeks and he promised to send us some info so that we can look into tabling there. One person that we met told us about how the fiance of one of his/her children had immigrated to the United States from India. The fiance's attorney (not us) made some mistakes and his/her status was thrown into disarray so the daughter/son ended up marrying the fiance sooner than they planned so that the foreign-born fiance could remain in the United States and keep working towards citizenship. Looking back over the situation now, the proud parent smiled and said, "it wasn't so bad; things turned out okay" and everyone ended up happy. By: Michael Patterson Community Liaison, Margaret W.
