In June of 2018, the Margaret W. Wong & Associates immigration law firm in Cleveland took over a case involving a woman named Odette who, along with her three young children, fled persecution in the Congo. She had just undergone her asylum interview and was awaiting the results.
Accordingly, we filed an I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization Document-EAD) for all family members and these were approved in November of 2018 and good for two years until October of 2020.
In late 2019, we were very glad for Odette when word was received that asylum had been approved. For sure, there was an abundance of paperwork that still had to be completed but in July of 2020, we were able to file for legal permanent residency for the mother and all her children.
We also renewed Odette’s EAD but, due to a last-minute “update” of application forms, the application was denied. Certainly, Odette was upset but our team assured her that she was still authorized to work as an asylum grantee before promptly re-filing the application this time making use of the “updated” form.
As it turned out, it didn’t matter because in April of 2021 all four green cards were approved.
To say the least, Odette was ecstatic and promised to contact the [nap_names id=”FIRM-NAME-1″]. Wong team again in the latter part of 2023 when she and her children would all be eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship.
