Global Cleveland Annual Meeting

We missed most of Global Cleveland’s 2021 virtual annual meeting that took place early Thursday morning on December 9th, but we want to extend our congratulations to all those who received citations on behalf of their work to help refugees/people who have immigrated to the United States as well as the entire Greater Cleveland/Northeast Ohio community.

Those honored were:

  • Dr. Akram Boutros, MD, Fache (Albert B. and Audrey G. Ratner Community Leader Award)
  • Mr. Cameron Fields (Media Partner Award)
  • Dr. Sergio E. Robles, Ph.D. (Volunteer of the Year Award)
  • Jewish Federation of Cleveland (Global Community Builder Award)
  • Mr. Tristan Wheeler (Volunteer of the Year Award)
  • Ms. Melaak Rashid (Youth Leader Award)

In addition, a new award was established on behalf of the late Mansfield Frazier who is best known for his planting of a vineyard named Chateau Hough that employed formerly incarcerated people thus giving them a second chance.

Accordingly, the recipient of the first Mansfield Frazier City Builder Award was Mr. Richey Piiparinen, Director of Urban Theory and Analytics at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at CSU.

Mr. Piiparinen was honored for his work that demonstrates that migrants, refugees, and immigrants have the potential to uplift a locality or region’s economy if provided with the necessary resources.

The meeting closed with Mr. Joe Cimperman, President of Global Cleveland, thanking all the sponsors that included [nap_names id=”FIRM-NAME-1″].

Mr. Cimperman also said that, in the aftermath of this meeting, he expected to receive a lot of texts in different languages, and it was one of the most rewarding things about his job.
