Italian Cultural Garden Fundraiser

On Sunday, September 9th, almost all of the events that we were considering were rained out but there was a terrific one that took place indoors which was the annual fundraiser for the Italian Cultural Garden that took place at the "Dante" restaurant on Professor Avenue in Tremont.

Ms. Joyce Mariani, Executive Director of the Italian Cultural Garden Foundation organized the fundraiser in conjunction with the Cleveland Italian Film Festival that opens this week on September 13th.

The fundraiser consisted of no speeches or presentations. All we had to do was enjoy the good company and great food prepared by Chef Dante Boccuzzi. Accordingly, we enjoyed an afternoon meal consisting of:

***Polipo Giardiniera (octopus salad, new potatoes, marinated vegetables)
***Ravioli Caprese con Baccala (cheese ravioli, salted cod, cherry tomatoes)
***Melzanzane Parmigiana (layered eggplant, slaume, hard boiled eggs)
***Braciola Alla Puttanesca (braised beef short ribs-in our case salmon was substituted-capers, olives, anchovies)
***Semifreddo di Pastiera (ricotta cheese, dried fruits, nuts, honey, nougat, and nuts)

In addition, we were sitting with Phil and Linda, a charming couple who live in downtown Cleveland and love to attend the various festivals just as we do. It is always nice to meet people who share our enthusiasm.

Throughout the meal we were served by Mr. Michael Koloskee, who is also a sommelier (wine steward). Of course, there were samplings of several delectable wines but since we do not drink, we had to pass. The afternoon was a relaxing capstone to a busy weekend.
