Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce Morning Buzz

On Friday, January 12th, we drove to the Hilton Garden Inn on East Market Street in Akron in order to attend the monthly "Morning Buzz" networking breakfast of the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce.

We were welcomed by Ms. Patricia Collica, the Chamber's Senior Sales Associate, who thanked us for renewing our membership. We also talked with a gentleman who was glad to take our contact information because he once worked with a firm that employed a few engineers from India who experienced trouble when the tried to re-enter the United States after going home for a visit.

The speaker for the morning was Mr. Scott Mr. Scott M. Alexander, a leadership coach who is also a fifth degree black belt martial arts expert. Mr. Alexander has adapted the principles of martial arts so they can be put to use as a guide to successful business leadership and even wrote a book titled "Lead Like a Black Belt".

Mr. Alexander proved to be a very personable man and what he had to say was very well expressed by a quote that appears on which reads:

"Great leaders don't simply accept their circumstances; they transcend them. Leadership, much like martial arts, requires an all-encompassing process or journey. It starts with our innate abilities and transforms us as we move along the path from doing to being. Because it is all-encompassing, this journey requires us to use our talents to overcome our shortcomings."

Mr. Tim Dimoff, President and CEO of SACS Consulting & Investigative Services, as well as coordinator of the "Morning Buzz", generously arranged for Mr. Alexander to travel to Akron from Maryland to give this presentation. Even more generously he arranged for all of us to receive a copy of Mr. Alexander's book which we look forward to reading.
