Heights-Hillcrest Chamber of Commerce Holiday Mixer
We are no longer members of the Heights-Hillcrest Chamber of Commerce but it was having its annual Holiday Mixer on Thursday night at "CLE Urban Winery" on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights so we decided to stop off to say hello.
We were greeted at the door by Mr. Nathan Wright, Business Development Assistant, who remembered us and gave us a hearty hello which was echoed by everyone that we talked to including both Ms. Karen Schaefer and Ms Angie Pohlman, the current and former Executive Directors of the Chamber. We were pleased to learn that Ms. Pohlman has started her own business and doing quite well.
Several people including Mr. Jay Fernandez of "10,000 Small Businesses" asked us about the new policies of the Trump administration regarding immigration. Along these lines we spoke with a man immigrated to the United States from Nigeria in the early 1990's and a person whose relative immigrated to the U.S. from Serbia with the help of our Ms. Fabiola Cini.
We really liked talking with Mr. Michael Dylan Brennan, an attorney who just got elected to be the next Mayor of University Heights. He told us that Ms. Margaret W. Wong had addressed his class on his first day of law school at Cleveland Marshall.
Lastly, we encountered Ms. Michele Kit who we haven't seen in a long time who is the General Manager of "CLE Urban Winery". Ms. Kit told us that she had had quite week because she attended a Human Rights Campaign brunch on Sunday; a PFLAG meeting on Tuesday and later that night hosted "Literary Cleveland" here at the Winery; and on Wednesday hosted the "Nightengale" a group that sings socially conscious songs.
Sounds like a week similar to our own!
