Fairview Park's 5th Annual Winterfest
Unfortunately we were out of town for the all-day Winterfest Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies that took place in downtown Cleveland on Saturday, November 25th although we are sure they were spectacular as always. We did manage, however, to attend Fairview Park's 5th Annual Winterfest that took place at Bain Park Cabin on North Park Drive in the evening of Friday, November 24th.
We arrived about 20 minutes before the Tree Lighting Ceremonies conducted by Fairview Park Mayor Eileen Ann Patton and Mr. Todd Meany, anchor at Fox 8 News and Fairview Park resident. We thus had time to walk around and check out the local vendors as well as to feed some carrot strips to a couple of reindeer brought here for the occasion. Although things were not as grand as the Cleveland Winterfest, we still loved the offerings presented by Fairview Park because they had a rustic, Norman Rockwell type of quality to them.
The ceremonies started with a little song titled "The Lights on the Tree" sung by members the "Fairview Park Early Childhood PTA Children's Choir" to Santa Claus who arrived just in time via a Fairview Park fire engine. Then it Mayor Patton flicked the switch that lit up a tree that was the official winner of the 2nd annual Fairview Park Christmas tree contest; in this case it came from the Delaney family who stood proudly beside Mayor Patton.
Let it be written that a second tree was lit at the same time; a much smaller but beautiful tree donated by a local landscaping company. Mayor Patton dubbed it a "tree in training" that will surely play a part in activities in years to come.
