Coffee Contacts at the Cougar 93.7 FM Radio Station

On Thursday morning, January 5th, we went to an Eastern Lake County Coffee Contacts at the Cougar 93.7 FM radio station on Mentor Avenue in Mentor where we were told by Ms. Cat Casey, "on air personality" and morning show host, that all of us chamber members were going to write a 30 second commercial for the businesses that we represented.

Ms. Casey had called her entire staff here to help us and assisting our table were Ms. Jill Carle and Mr. Jetson Whetson who were very patient and gave constructive advice about the need to focus on particular aspects of our businesses that made us unique. Moreover, they encouraged us to be creative because these offbeat, often funny commercials tend to be the most memorable.

Ms. Carle gave as an example a commercial from the 1970's (she was too young to have heard it on the air when it was popular but had studied it in a retrospective of memorable commercials) for a headache remedy that went, "pop pop, fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is!"

After a half hour, all of us got to share our commercials with our friends. Probably the most memorable jingle came from our friend Ms. Kimberly Hoffman who works for a company that makes signs for businesses. It read, "a business with no sign is a sign with no business."

We, ourselves, were focused on the immigration forum that Margaret W. Wong and Associates will be putting on next week. Thus our commercial read:

"Are you foreign-born and did the last election leave you confused about our country's immigration laws and their impact? Then come to Margaret W. Wong's educational forum on immigration on Thursday the 12th at 6:30pm at the Morley Library in Painesville. No registration is required-just show up because Margaret W. Wong and Associates has been practicing immigration law for 30 years and we're the ones to cut through the rhetoric and provide assistance."

Not bad....of course our good friend and co-worker Mr. Gordon Landefeld, who specializes in media, could have done better....but...still....not bad....
