Jonathan A. Bartell, Esq.

Jonathan Bartell is an immigration attorney specializing in litigation. He has practiced in immigration courts all over the United States. He's admitted to Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, and the Second, Fourth, Sixth, and Seventh Circuits Courts of Appeals. He has appeared in courts all over the State of Ohio, in Pennsylvania, the Middle District Court of Florida, and in the Western District Court of South Carolina.

Jonathan lived in Thailand five years in the early 1990s, living and working in a UNHCR refugee camp, Phanat Nikhom. The camp residents included Laotian highlanders: Hmong, Mien, and Lahu Hill-tribesmen. These individuals had been recruited by the U.S. CIA during the Vietnam Era to prevent the communists from taking over the government in a campaign dubbed the "secret war." Also in the camp were Cambodians and Vietnamese. Jonathan prepared Laotians for resettlement in the U.S., providing English language instruction, cultural orientation, and work orientation.

While Jonathan was there, the U.S. immigration laws changed drastically which affected many families who had been waiting for many years to resettle in the U.S. In the blink of an eye, many families were now disqualified from coming to the U.S. Finding this change very unfair, Jonathan assisted some families in the presentment of their cases to USCIS (which had an office in the camp) to qualify for waivers so that they could in fact be granted resettlement in the US.

During his time in Thailand, Jonathan realized that he wanted to help immigrants and non-citizens with immigration law when he returned to the U.S.  Jonathan's wife, a native of Thailand, came to the U.S. on a fiancé visa which they later adjusted status to a LPR, and then a citizen.
