Celebrating Inclusion and Diversity at the 10th Annual Akron Pride Festival

On Saturday, August 22, our team got up early and traveled to downtown Akron to set up our table and represent “Margaret W. Wong & Associates at the 10th Annual Akron Pride Festival.

The Akron Pride Festival is an annual celebration that brings people together through music, entertainment, community resources, and opportunities to promote equality and inclusion. According to the 2026 Pride Guide, the festival’s mission is to unify and affirm the LGBTQ+ community and its allies while celebrating diversity and promoting acceptance and human equity.

You can read the 2026 Akron Pride Festival Guide for more information about the event.

Connecting With the Akron Community

Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people who stopped by our table to talk with us. As an immigration law firm, we especially enjoyed hearing the personal stories of people whose families have come to the United States from around the world.

One of those people was a man named Chris, who shared his family’s immigration story with us. His father immigrated to the United States from Germany when he was only 16 years old.

A few years later, Chris’s father joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. While serving there, he met his future wife, Chris’s mother, and eventually brought her home to the United States.

Chris smiled as he recalled another interesting part of his father’s military experience. Because his father understood the German language and culture, he became a popular resource among the other men in his unit. His friends would turn to him for advice about how to properly approach young women while stationed in Germany.

Stories like Chris’s are a reminder that immigration is deeply woven into the history of so many American families. Behind every immigration journey is a person, a family, and a story about building a life in the United States.

Advocating for Immigrants and the Foreign-Born

We also had a meaningful conversation with a woman named Anne, who told us how much she respects Margaret W. Wong and her work advocating for immigrants and foreign-born individuals.

Anne said that, despite the challenging times we are living through, Ms. Wong is not afraid to speak up for the rights and interests of the foreign-born.

That message resonated with us. For decades, Margaret W. Wong & Associates LLC has worked with immigrants and families navigating the U.S. immigration system. Meeting people in our community gives us an opportunity not only to share information about immigration law, but also to listen to the experiences that shape people’s lives.

Celebrating Diversity Through Community

Our day at the Akron Pride Festival was about much more than setting up a table. It was an opportunity to connect with members of the Akron community, listen to their stories, and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities stronger.

Chris’s family story and Anne’s kind words were two memorable moments from a day filled with conversations and connections.

Events such as the Akron Pride Festival remind us of the importance of inclusion, acceptance, and standing together for human dignity. We were proud to participate and represent Margaret W. Wong & Associates LLC at this year’s celebration.

We look forward to continuing to connect with the community and to helping individuals and families navigate their immigration journeys with knowledge, compassion, and experienced legal guidance.
