Margaret W. Wong & Associates Supports Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation and WomenSafe at Two Impactful Community Fundraisers.
Supporting the Cleveland Legal Community
On Saturday evening, February 28, Margaret W. Wong & Associates LLC attended two meaningful community events in the Cleveland area.
We first visited the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation’s 20th annual “Rock the Foundation” fundraiser at Gordon Green on Detroit Avenue.
A Toast to the Twenties
This year’s theme was “A Toast to the Twenties.” The evening celebrated the spirit of the Roaring Twenties with vintage glamour and Art Deco style. The event brought together members of Cleveland’s bench, bar, and business communities. Its purpose was to support the Foundation’s life-changing programs.
Margaret W. Wong & Associates LLC proudly served as a “Swanky Sponsor.” We admire the Foundation’s initiatives that expand access to justice, support civic and law-related education, and invest in the next generation of diverse, civic-minded legal leaders. This includes many who have immigrated to the United States and resettled in Cleveland.
Honoring Charles A. Bittenbender
During the program, the Foundation honored Charles A. Bittenbender with its highest distinction, the Richard W. Pogue Award for Excellence in Community Leadership and Engagement.
Mr. Bittenbender is a prominent attorney and serves as Board Chair of Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra. According to the program notes, he has exemplified leadership, civic engagement, and professional excellence for decades. A retired Chief Legal Officer and longtime community leader, he has strengthened organizations that serve the public good and enrich Cleveland’s cultural life.
Although Mr. Bittenbender could not attend the event, he sent a message expressing his appreciation.
The Legacy of Richard W. Pogue
The award is named after our good friend, Richard W. Pogue. He is widely respected as a Cleveland lawyer and civic leader whose decades of service reflect the values this honor represents.
When asked how he felt about having an award named after him, Mr. Pogue smiled and simply said it was “very nice.”
Celebrating WomenSafe’s 25th Anniversary
Later that evening, we traveled to the Lavera Party Center in Willoughby Hills. There, we attended the 25th Silver Anniversary of “Casino Night at the Races,” an annual fundraiser for WomenSafe, Inc..
Founded in 1980, WomenSafe has long supported survivors of domestic violence. Its mission is to provide emergency shelter and comprehensive support services throughout Northeast Ohio. The organization also offers community education programs to reduce domestic violence and raise awareness of available resources.
Supporting Vulnerable Communities
Many immigrants to the United States face unique challenges. Language barriers, cultural transitions, and isolation can increase vulnerability to abuse. Organizations like WomenSafe play a critical role in offering protection, advocacy, and hope.
Ms. Margaret W. Wong strongly supports WomenSafe’s mission and ongoing work in the community.
An Evening of Community and Gratitude
In addition to enjoying good pasta and simulated horse races, we had the pleasure of visiting with Ms. Andrea Gutka, WomenSafe’s CEO and Executive Director. She thanked Ms. Wong for her continued support. She also credited WomenSafe’s dedicated staff and strong community backing for the organization’s enduring success.
Special Recognition for Margaret W. Wong
A special award was presented to Ms. Margaret W. Wong for her “outstanding generosity, leadership, and continued support of the Asian business community in Ohio.”
Although Ms. Wong was unable to attend, our team accepted the award on her behalf. In brief remarks, we expressed how honored we are to represent such a dedicated and community-minded leader.
Supporting Immigrant Entrepreneurs in Ohio
Many ABAO members are entrepreneurs who immigrated to the United States from various Asian countries. Their businesses contribute significantly to Ohio’s economic growth and cultural diversity. We were proud to learn that several members had previously been assisted by Margaret W. Wong & Associates LLC in their immigration journeys.
Events like the ABAO New Year Celebration highlight the strength, resilience, and continued success of Ohio’s Asian business community.
