About NEOBA – A Hub for Bengali Culture in Northeast Ohio

The North East Ohio Bengali Association (NEOBA) plays a vital role in promoting Bengali culture and heritage in the Cleveland area. Over the years, it has brought together families, youth, and individuals through:
- Cultural festivals and celebrations
- Traditional music and dance
- Community programs and sports events
NEOBA includes first‑ and second‑generation Bengali Americans, as well as immigrants who have made Ohio their home. As a result, the organization fosters a strong sense of identity, belonging, and cultural pride.
As stated on one of NEOBA’s posters, the group strives to create a space “Where Traditions Unite, Hearts Rejoice, & Bonhomie Reigns Supreme.”
Conversations with Community Leaders
During the event, we spoke with Dr. Amiya Ghosh, PhD, from the Ohio State Neuroscience Research Institute, who led the organization of this year’s Diwali Mela celebration. He shared his vision for the event and emphasized the importance of cultural gatherings like this one.
Dr. Ghosh also introduced us to Mr. Shaubhik Goswami, the President of NEOBA. Mr. Goswami expressed his gratitude for the strong community support and highlighted NEOBA’s ongoing mission to preserve and celebrate Bengali traditions in Northeast Ohio.
