Mr. and Mrs. A, citizens of Turkey hired our office in 2020 to assist them file an application for asylum.
They were persecuted in Turkey, they were investigated for their ties to the Gulen movement, their house and person were searched, their personal items and passports were confiscated by the Turkish government, and Mr. A was suspended from his university faculty job and finally convicted and sentenced to several years in jail because of their affiliation with the Gulen movement in Turkey. They had suffered severe mental distress and had been treated for anxiety and depression. Mr. A fled Turkey while his conviction appeal remained under review.
Our attorney Fabiola Cini assisted Mr. and Mrs. A in filing for asylum, attended the interview with them and argued the case in front of the asylum office. Our clients’ case was approved in 2025 as we successfully argued that they had established past persecution and a well-founded fear of future persecution in Turkey because of their actual and imputed political opinion and their membership in the recognized particular social groups.
