Mrs. Santos entered the United States in 2012. Fleeing the domestic violence and gang harassment she faced in her native Honduras. She filed her asylum application with the immigration court in Chicago, Illinois, and was granted asylum in 2018. In 2019, Mrs. Santos submitted her application for adjustment of status, and by 2022, she obtained her residency.
At the time she filed her application, her three children were still living in Honduras. The I-730 application for her children was approved, but due to family issues, the refugee process could not continue at that time. However, at the end of 2024, the process resumed. In January 2025, the refugee visa for the family was approved. Now, they are legally in the United States and will be eligible to apply for their adjustment of status in one year—this is a success story for the family.
