Cleveland Community Events at St. Casimir Church
On Sunday afternoon, January 5, the Cleveland Opera presented its “Mozart, Still, and Christmas” concert at St. Casimir Church.
For approximately one hour, the audience enjoyed musical works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and William Grant Still. The performance also included familiar holiday carols, such as “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”
Several members of the company also belonged to the newly formed Cleveland Opera Institute.
We enjoyed the music and the opportunity to visit the sanctuary of St. Casimir Church. Parishioners who immigrated from Poland built the church more than 100 years ago, and it remains beautifully decorated.
During the visit, we spoke with several elderly attendees. They shared that the church had “been built by our grandparents and we grew up here!”
Cleveland Community Events Celebrate Three Kings Day
Buhrer Dual Language Academy in Cleveland came alive on Monday evening, January 6, during its Three Kings Day Celebration, also known as Feliz Día Los Reyes Magos. The event took place in the school gym.
Guests enjoyed a lively dance performance that blended Salsa and Afrobeat. The celebration also included a visit from the Three Kings, portrayed by costumed performers.
Through our research, we learned that Three Kings Day takes place 12 days after Christmas, on January 6. The holiday marks the biblical moment when the Wise Men, or Magi, visited Jesus.
In countries such as Spain, Three Kings Day is also when children receive their Christmas presents. At Buhrer Dual Language Academy, children received gifts, along with pizza and other snacks.
This visit marked our first time at the school. The student body includes many children whose families immigrated from Hispanic countries. Buhrer is home to Ohio’s first dual‑language education program, with classes taught in both English and Spanish.
