Independence Day Naturalization Ceremonies Across the U.S.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is celebrating Independence Day by welcoming approximately 11,000 new citizens through more than 195 naturalization ceremonies held from June 28 through July 5. These events reflect ongoing efforts to promote U.S. citizenship for eligible individuals. In fiscal year 2023, USCIS welcomed 878,500 new citizens. So far in fiscal year 2024, the agency has added 589,400 new citizens, contributing to a significant reduction in the naturalization application backlog.
USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou expressed pride in administering the Oath of Allegiance during this period. She highlighted the diversity and character that new citizens bring to communities across the country.
Independence Day Naturalization Ceremonies
Each year on July 4, the United States marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. USCIS recognizes this historic occasion by holding special naturalization ceremonies worldwide. These ceremonies honor the commitment of individuals who have chosen to become U.S. citizens.
This year’s celebrations include special events across the country, including locations near the nation’s capital. Notable ceremonies are planned at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, where Deputy Assistant to the President Blas Nuñez‑Neto will attend, as well as at Battleship New Jersey, Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri, and Fort Clatsop at Lewis & Clark National Historic Park in Oregon. USCIS Citizenship Initiatives
USCIS continues efforts to make naturalization accessible to all eligible individuals. These efforts support Executive Order 14012, which focuses on restoring confidence in the legal immigration system and strengthening integration outcomes. Related initiatives include the Outstanding Americans by Choice program and $12.6 million in grants awarded to immigrant‑serving organizations. USCIS also operates the Citizenship and Integration Training Academy.
Support for Military Members and Families
USCIS maintains dedicated resources for U.S. military members, veterans, and their families. The agency has streamlined the naturalization process for eligible service members and offers specialized assistance. Available services include a Military Help Line, fee waivers, and special handling of military naturalization applications.
New U.S. citizens are encouraged to share their naturalization experiences and photos on social media using the hashtag #NewUSCitizen following their ceremonies.
