USCIS Naturalization Ceremonies Celebrate Independence Day
USCIS Naturalization Ceremonies Celebrate Independence Day
This year’s Independence Day brought a powerful wave of celebration through USCIS naturalization ceremonies. From June 30 to July 7, the agency hosted more than 180 events, welcoming over 5,500 new U.S. citizens. These ceremonies reflect USCIS’s ongoing effort to reduce backlogs and expand access to citizenship.
In 2022, USCIS welcomed 974,000 new citizens. So far in 2023, another 588,900 people have taken the Oath of Allegiance.
USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou emphasized the importance of these celebrations. She noted that promoting citizenship reflects the ideals that shaped the nation 247 years ago. She also described Independence Day as a meaningful moment to reaffirm USCIS’s mission and welcome new citizens as they begin their American journey.
Civics Season Events Across the Country
This summer, USCIS launched Civics Season to highlight the importance of civics and citizenship. The series began on World Refugee Day with a special naturalization ceremony. It will conclude with the announcement of the Fiscal Year 2023 Citizenship and Integration Grants.
To honor Independence Day, USCIS planned ceremonies at historic locations, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. These events showcase the deep connection between American history and the nation’s newest citizens.
The continued growth of USCIS naturalization ceremonies demonstrates the agency’s commitment to expanding access to citizenship. If you’re preparing for naturalization or exploring your path to citizenship, contact our team so they can guide you with clarity and confidence.
