USCIS Biometrics Rescheduling Tool Now Available Online

USCIS introduced a new USCIS biometrics rescheduling tool on June 28. The feature allows applicants, attorneys, and accredited representatives to reschedule most biometrics appointments before the original date. This update expands access and reduces the need for phone calls to the USCIS Contact Center.

How the New Tool Works

Previously, only benefit requestors and accredited representatives could request a new appointment by calling USCIS. Now, anyone with a USCIS online account can reschedule most biometrics appointments through the self‑service tool.

However, the tool has limits. It cannot reschedule appointments already changed twice, appointments within 12 hours, or appointments that have already passed.

Who Can Use the Online System

The tool is available through any USCIS online account, even if the case was filed by mail. Users may still call the Contact Center, but USCIS strongly encourages online rescheduling. This shift aims to save time, improve efficiency, and reduce call volume.

Updated Guidance on Rescheduling Requests

USCIS also updated the Policy Manual to clarify how the agency reviews rescheduling requests. Officers may consider untimely requests and evaluate the consequences of missing an appointment.

The guidance explains how USCIS determines “good cause.” Valid reasons include illness, medical appointments, planned travel, major life events, transportation problems, work or caregiver duties, or issues receiving the appointment notice.

USCIS accepts untimely requests only through the Contact Center. It does not accept late requests by mail, in person, or through the online tool.
