Jewish Discovery Center Lakewood Grand Opening

Celebrating the Opening of the Jewish Discovery Center Lakewood

On Wednesday, December 15th, we attended the grand opening of the Jewish Discovery Center Lakewood on Madison Avenue. This historic event marked the first official Jewish space in Lakewood’s history. Moreover, it was a moment of pride for the entire community.

The Center was established as part of the Chabad movement. Rabbi Mendel Jacobs and his wife, Devora, explained that Torah classes will be offered. However, the Center’s mission goes beyond religious education. In fact, it aims to be a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of faith.

A Hub for Community and Wellness

In addition to Torah classes, the Center will host yoga sessions and family-friendly activities such as Mommy and Me. Furthermore, it will provide services for those in need. This inclusive approach reflects its goal of being a true community hub.

Ms. Mariely Luengo and Ms. Laura Kerns played key roles in founding the Center. Today, Ms. Kerns serves as project manager. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Lakewood Mayor Meghan George expressed excitement about the Center. She called it long overdue and pledged to partner with its leaders.

Words of Inspiration

Ohio State Senator Nickie Antonio sent a proclamation praising the effort. It stated, “This dedication convincingly demonstrates how very much can be accomplished by a group of conscientious people with clear objectives and firm resolve.” Clearly, the Jewish Discovery Center Lakewood is more than a building—it is a symbol of inclusion, faith, and community growth.
