CAMEO Cleveland Virtual Meeting | Addressing Blood Shortage

On Wednesday, February 9th, we joined the monthly meeting of CAMEO Cleveland (Cleveland American Middle East Organization). This session was conducted virtually, allowing members to connect safely and conveniently.

The guest speaker was Ms. Jill Trupo, District Manager of American Red Cross Services of Northern Ohio. Ms. Trupo presented an engaging slideshow that summarized the history of the American Red Cross and the essential services it provides.

More importantly, we learned that the nation is facing the worst blood shortage in over a decade. This crisis is largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused staffing shortages and reduced the number of blood drives.

This alarming news prompted CAMEO members to brainstorm ways to help. Several ideas focused on volunteer efforts and blood donation campaigns. Immigrants, in particular, can play a vital role as volunteers and donors, provided they follow travel-related guidelines for eligibility.
