Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade: A Tradition Since 1842

On March 17th, we boarded a bus at the East Side Irish American Club to represent [nap_names id=”FIRM-NAME-1″] at the Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a beloved tradition that has taken place almost every year since 1842. Although the parades in 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to Covid-19, the excitement returned in full force this year.

This event is one that everyone can enjoy, but it holds special meaning for those of Irish descent. It commemorates the legacy of St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, and serves as a grand celebration of Irish history and culture. Families, friends, and visitors gather to experience the vibrant floats, music, and community spirit that make this parade unforgettable.

At first, we were disappointed to learn we would not be traveling on Lilly the Trolley, which is no longer in service in Cleveland. However, our spirits lifted when Martha, the customary driver of Lolly, joined us. Her lively personality and stories about the parade and Cleveland history made the trip memorable. Many agree that St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be the same without Martha’s cheerful presence.

Upon arrival, we explored the area, taking photos of colorful floats and enthusiastic participants. As we joined the procession, Martha predicted a huge turnout thanks to the beautiful weather—and she was absolutely right. The streets were filled with smiling faces, laughter, and pride in Irish heritage.
