CAMEO Cleveland Meeting | Supporting Middle Eastern Communities

On Wednesday, March 9th, we attended the March meeting of CAMEO Cleveland (Cleveland American Middle East Organization) at Syriana Mediterranean Cuisine on Center Ridge Road in Westlake.

Many local political leaders and judges were present, including Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough. Their attendance demonstrated sincere support for Cleveland’s Middle Eastern community.

Also in attendance was former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, who served from 2013 to 2022. He is currently a candidate for Governor of Ohio, running in the Democratic primary.

Mayor Cranley spoke briefly and emphasized his commitment to helping foreign-born residents. During his tenure as mayor, Cincinnati launched the Cincinnati Compass website. This online portal provides more than 100 resources for internationals new to the area.

Along these lines, Mayor Cranley shared a personal connection to immigration. His wife immigrated to the United States from Jordan, and many of her relatives now live in Cincinnati.

What’s more, Mayor Cranley has visited Jordan several times with his wife, who is fluently bilingual. These experiences have deepened his appreciation for Middle Eastern culture and what he calls “the lands of the Bible.”
