This asylum success story highlights Odette’s courageous journey from persecution in the Congo to safety and legal status in the United States. Her experience shows how persistence and the right legal team can transform lives.
Moreover, in June 2018, the Margaret W. Wong & Associates immigration law firm in Cleveland took over Odette’s case. She and her three young children had fled persecution in the Congo and were awaiting the results of her asylum interview.
Furthermore, to help stabilize her family’s situation, we filed Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization Document – EAD) for all family members. These were approved in November 2018 and valid for two years until October 2020.
In late 2019, Odette received the life-changing news: her asylum was approved. While there was still paperwork to complete, by July 2020 we filed for legal permanent residency for Odette and her children.
We also renewed Odette’s EAD, but due to a last-minute update to application forms, the request was denied. Understandably, Odette was upset, but our team reassured her that she was still authorized to work as an asylum grantee. We quickly refiled using the updated form.
Fortunately, this hiccup didn’t matter—because in April 2021, all four green cards were approved. Odette’s asylum success story had reached its happy conclusion.
Odette was ecstatic and promised to contact the Margaret W. Wong team again in late 2023 when she and her children would be eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship. Her asylum success story is a testament to resilience and expert legal guidance.
